I’m ‘Fluttered’!

Well, it’s “Hello, World!” for me once again as I start off yet another journey towards learning a new tech stack — Flutter.

Honestly, with so many articles out there teaching one thing or another on this subject, I struggled with the idea of sharing my bits on any platform. The age-old questions of “what can I teach people? who even cares? what do I have to offer that’s new?” etc. really messed with my psyche. But today, as I made yet another breakthrough in something that had bugged me for a hot minute, I decided to bite the proverbial bullet.

And here is why… Our end goals might be the same but my journey is different. And as much as I learn from other resources online, perhaps through my thought process, someone else can learn as well. And even if just 1 other person benefits from the issues and/or solutions I come across, then yippee!

So why flutter?

I am drawn to flutter due to the beautiful UI you can create with it. As some of you may be aware (especially if you have read a couple of my posts on my blog here) I have a thing for UI and UX. In some ways, I feel like I am a designer first, then a developer second.

Also, the fact that you can create these beautiful apps across multiple platforms from a single codebase is a major win!

Starting point

First of all, I need to mention that prior to this, I had no experience with Dart — the language that powers Flutter. In fact, I didn’t know the language existed until I got interested in Flutter a couple of months ago (I know, please don’t judge. At least we are here now)

Secondly, I have experience developing Android apps (mainly for school projects and side passion projects, nothing commercial) with Java. I haven’t tried Kotlin — not sure if that would have helped the process or not.

They say the best way to learn is through practice. And I agree. The process has been slow and tiresome this past month but it is definitely worth it. If there are resources out there that you know would help in my journey, please don’t hesitate to share them below.

So welcome to the start of my Flutter journey and thank you for reading! ❤

I’m ‘fluttered’!
